Concerts on the Creek: Rissi Palmer

This month, Concerts on the Creek features Rissi Palmer. A prominent figure in both Country and Americana music, Durham’s Grammy-nominated Rissi Palmer has performed at prestigious venues such as The White House, the Grand Ole Opry, Lincoln Center, and the Apollo Theater, and has appeared on Good Morning America, CBS Mornings, Entertainment Tonight, and PBS NewsHour. Her work has been recognized by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Essence, Vibe, Washington Post and more. Last year, she was honored with the ACM Lift Every Voice Award for her advocacy in amplifying underrepresented voices and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in country music. Recommended for fans of The War & Treaty, Joy Clark and Miko Marks.

A relaxed, open-air weekend music experience, Concerts on the Creek is Hub RTP’s monthly live music program featuring regional artists on the Hub RTP Stage. This series invites you to grab a lawn chair, spread out a picnic blanket, or wander the grounds while enjoying local sounds between lunch and dinner. With Burdens Creek and vibrant murals as the backdrop, take in the scenery and enjoy the fresh air. This series is perfect for families, friends or anyone looking to spend a leisurely weekend afternoon immersed in the Hub RTP community.

This event is free to attend and open to all. While attendance is free, please register for a free ticket to receive reminders and stay in the know for any updates. Free public parking is located on the deck just across the street at 3150 Elion Drive.

To find the stage, use 3151 Elion Drive. Upon arrival, walk through the outdoor breezeway (featuring the Desire Path mural) to the courtyard. Walk down the steps, and you will see the stage facing Burdens Creek. There are various seating options available that are first come, first served. Nearby shops and restaurants at Horseshoe at Hub RTP and Boxyard RTP are available. Keep in mind that this is an outdoor venue, so please dress and plan accordingly.

Roaming Readers: Mystery + Thrillers

Lace up your sneakers, pop in your earbuds, and get swept up in a story one step at a time!

Roaming Readers is an audiobook club with a twist! Join us on April 12 from 9:30–11:00am as we hit the trails in RTP for a morning of fresh air, light movement, and literary adventure.

Each month, we’ll explore a different genre with suggested selections curated in partnership with Durham County Library and Wake County Public Libraries. You are always welcome to chart your own course and select any book of your choosing. Our Library partners have titles available from Hoolpa or Libby, making it easy to borrow and press play. This month’s selection is Mystery + Thrillers!

Here’s how it works:

Borrow or download a book in this month’s suggested audiobook genre from your local library. Arrive early to apply with for a library card if you do not already have one to gain access. This month’s suggested title is You Deserve to Know by Aggie Blum Thompson. If you have already read it, cannot access a copy, or would prefer another title, we suggest: You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose and The Locked Door by Freida McFadden,
If you’d like to sign up for a library card, remember to bring a photo ID.
Bring your phone, headphones and a water bottle.
Walk the trails with fellow book lovers while listening at your own pace.
Optional: Gather at the end to chat about the story, share favorite moments, and connect.

This event is for book lovers, the book-curious, people who haven’t been able to make time to read (or listen) for fun, introverts, extroverts, exercisers, care givers pushing strollers, (leashed) dog owners, groups, singles, nature lovers, and multi-taskers

All paces welcome. Take breaks when you need them.

We know it is easy to get transported to another world when listening to your book. Be sure to stay alert as we will be crossing roads and may encounter uneven pavement.

Concerts on the Creek: Kaira Ba

This month, Concerts on the Creek features Kaira Ba. Kaira Ba fully believes in their band’s name (“The Great Peace.”) Co-founder and kora player Diali Cissokho, who immigrated to North Carolina from Senegal in 2010, comes from a long line of prominent hereditary griots – people who are entrusted to maintain a West African village’s genealogies and important ceremonial affairs through song. Shuffle: Wake Moody

Every Wednesday this month, Shuffle features Wake Moody. His music is built on old-school R&B, rock, and modern pop. Music that stays focused on good vibes, while the lyrics often deal with something more conflicted. You can learn more about Wake Moody by going to https://wakemoody.com/

Shuffle into your lunch break with weekly live music on the Hub RTP stage. This residency-style music series pairs elevated, unexpected sounds with your midday, giving you a chance to pause, recharge and enjoy local tunes. Whether you’re grabbing a bite, meeting a colleague or just stepping outside for a change in pace, Shuffle adds a refreshing soundtrack to your day. Performances take place midweek from March through June, and September through October, with a new artist-in residence featured each month.

Join Us for a Virtual Information Session: Learn About Leading Art Workshops at Hub RTP!

Program Details: The Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina (RTF) invites artists or art organizations to submit their qualifications to lead a hands-on art instruction session at a future monthly program hosted by Hub RTP. RTF aims to curate a diverse roster of artists across multiple disciplines to develop a robust monthly calendar of programming at Hub RTP. Artists or organizations interested in highlighting cultural topics and disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications can be submitted at rtp.slideroom.com.
