Concerts on the Creek: Rissi Palmer

This month, Concerts on the Creek features Rissi Palmer. A prominent figure in both Country and Americana music, Durham’s Grammy-nominated Rissi Palmer has performed at prestigious venues such as The White House, the Grand Ole Opry, Lincoln Center, and the Apollo Theater, and has appeared on Good Morning America, CBS Mornings, Entertainment Tonight, and PBS NewsHour. Her work has been recognized by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Essence, Vibe, Washington Post and more. Last year, she was honored with the ACM Lift Every Voice Award for her advocacy in amplifying underrepresented voices and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in country music. A relaxed, open-air weekend music experience, Concerts on the Creek is Hub RTP’s monthly live music program featuring regional artists on the Hub RTP Stage. This series invites you to grab a lawn chair, spread out a picnic blanket, or wander the grounds while enjoying local sounds between lunch and dinner. With Burdens Creek and vibrant murals as the backdrop, take in the scenery and enjoy the fresh air. This series is perfect for families, friends or anyone looking to spend a leisurely weekend afternoon immersed in the Hub RTP community.

Concerts on the Creek is presented in partnership with Sonic Pie Productions. 

This event is free to attend and open to all. While attendance is free, please register for a free ticket to receive reminders and stay in the know for any updates. Free public parking is located on the deck just across the street at 3150 Elion Drive.  

To find the stage, use 3151 Elion Drive. Upon arrival, walk through the outdoor breezeway (featuring the Desire Path mural) to the courtyard. Walk down the steps, and you will see the stage facing Burdens Creek. There are various seating options available that are first come, first served. Nearby shops and restaurants at Horseshoe at Hub RTP and Boxyard RTP are available. Keep in mind that this is an outdoor venue, so please dress and plan accordingly.

Concerts on the Creek: Kaira Ba

This month, Concerts on the Creek features Kaira Ba. Kaira Ba fully believes in their band’s name (“The Great Peace.”) Co-founder and kora player Diali Cissokho, who immigrated to North Carolina from Senegal in 2010, comes from a long line of prominent hereditary griots – people who are entrusted to maintain a West African village’s genealogies and important ceremonial affairs through song. This Month’s Artists:

Formed in 2019, ¡Tumbao! has wasted no time in capturing the hearts and ears of audiences wherever they perform. From legendary venues along the United States east coast to festivals that celebrate the very essence of world music, this ensemble’s popularity is skyrocketing. The band’s dynamic stage presence, stellar musicianship, and infectious energy create an atmosphere that is impossible to resist.

More than heart-pounding rhythms and irresistible melodies, The band provides a cultural journey that celebrates the rich traditions and diverse heritage of Latin America. By blending musical elements from different regions, ¡Tumbao! creates a multicultural experience that unites people from all walks of life.

Coming off from a record-setting international tour for the nine person Psychedelic Latin Fusion ensemble, – having shared the stage with Grammy Award winning acts like Kabaka Pyramid, Proyecto Uno, and legend Mavis Staples, with performances at stages such as the Grassroots Festival Circuit, The Smithsonian, a featured artist at Jazz in the Garden in Washington, DC and CocoJazz Fest in Lima, Peru – the band has reached a new height of popularity, expanding its fanbase beyond its original Latin American and East Coast roots.
